Obituary for William H. Dunham

When we come to the end of our life, may we be blessed to say “I’ve finished the puzzle. I fulfilled my destiny. God put together all the pieces and made me whole.”
William H. Dunham, 91 died on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at home after a period of declining health.
Bill was born July 18, 1927 in Covington, OH to Lee and Carrie Dunham.
After graduation from Covington High School in 1945 he was drafted into the U.S. Army.
Walking in a separation center, he was able to give discharge papers to his two other brothers.
Following his own discharge, Bill attended Ohio Wesleyan University along with his brothers.
He graduated in 1951 and took a coaching/teaching job in Wharton, OH.
On June 21, 1952 Bill married his college sweet heart, Elva Pickwick.
They moved from Wharton to Lodi in 1954 and both taught for the Lodi Schools.
In 1959, the Cloverleaf Local School District was formed and Bill became its first Guidance Counselor.
He got his MA from Akron University in 1960 and became principal of Westfield Elementary.
When the Cloverleaf Junior High was opened in 1970, he became principal there.
In 1976, he was Curriculum Director, and in 1980 he became Superintendent of the Cloverleaf Schools. He and Elva retired in 1985.
Bill’s hobbies were golf, reading history books, finding covered bridges, and doing volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, Lodi Hospital, Lodi UMC and Ruritans.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elva and their daughters Debbie (Mike) Cooper and Diane Brasse. They have 4 married grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 2 at 2:00 PM at the Lodi United Methodist Church, 320 Medina St. Lodi, OH 44254.
The Rev. Dr. Diane Bell will officiate. There will be fellowship with the family downstairs following the service. A private burial with Military Honors will take place at a later date.
