Obituary for Harry M. Bickerton

Harry Merle Bickerton, 98 of Westfield Twp., OH, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Burbank Parke Care Center.

Born Nov. 13, 1918, in Dravosburg, PA to Harry O. and Della (Keating) Bickerton, Harry and his family soon relocated close to Cleveland's Slavic Village where he graduated from John Adams High School in 1937. A proud veteran of WWII, Harry served and defended his country with the 79th Infantry Division in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and the Central European Theaters, where he earned 4 bronze battle stars. Harry loved to engage, entertain and enlighten fellow veterans, family and friends with firsthand experiences of the war he so passionately served in. Following his military service, he returned to Cleveland where spent his entire 33 year civilian career as a power house engineer at Republic Steel, retiring in 1981.

Harry was a member of the Wellington Free Will Baptist Church. He is survived by his Long-time Life Companion, Athel Frame, of Lodi. Harry was honored to have Athel's children and grandchildren as his extended family, especially Lenny and Sandy Neuman of Medina, OH.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Fay Bickerton, sister, Jean Ziegler, brothers, Ray and Earl Bickerton, and extended family member, Del Frame.

It was Harry's desire that there be no formal services. To thank him for his life contributions and service to our country, the family will celebrate Harry with a Private Graveside Service including Military Honors at Westfield Center Cemetery, Westfield Center, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Rd., Suite 270, Valley View, OH 44125.
